Back home in Michigan! Missing Alaska but loving being home

Yippppeeeeeee.... It's Wednesday! I am so excited... we are going to Koyuk this afternoon! We have POD Thursday and Friday. We are all so thrilled to be going to Langford training - NOT!!! I love being able to travel to other villages but I really do not want to go this time. Patty hasn't been feeling well and I am just blah. Not exactly your traveling mood. Regardless - I will be taking the camera so I'll be showing more of our great state this weekend.
Over and out...

OK - I am awake...

It's now Monday and I guess I am awake! (Hi Nancy & Jack)
I've finally downloaded some pictures from Easter so I'll post those. Ok... so I won't post those now. The server seems to be busy or some foolish thing. I'll post those pictures when I can.

I was told that spring was here about a week ago. I am seriously having some issues with spring in St. Michael. The temps have been in the 20's for the most part. It was really nice yesterday, about 40 degrees. However, it snowed again Saturday night. I think we got about 3 inches or so. This morning it is 21 and looks like it could snow again. I have to tell you, the majority of the winter I was thinking how great the weather was... Now I am thinking... when is winter over??? We get out of school a month from today and I am wondering if the snow and ice will still be here.

This past weekend was another busy one! Patty, Jeannie and I started working on our college coursework. So much fun! It really won't be too bad as we do get to work together. We are taking two courses: Alaska Alive and Creating Culturally Responsive Schools. So far... so good!

Have a marvelous Monday all!

It's Wednesday... only 2 more days til Friday!!! I am so looking forward to the weekend. We really don't have any plans but I can not wait to sleep in! These past couple of weeks have been extremely busy. Patty and I are both suffering from lack of sleep.
I was told this morning that we only have 24 days of school left. I am still amazed at how quickly this year has gone. It's crazy how fast time goes!
I'll post more later... when I wake up.

I've got the power...

Yes!!! We are fully charged once again! The main generator has been fixed and as of about 1:00 yesterday the village is all lit up again! That really was about it for the highlights of yesterday... Another day in SMK...

I think we may have dodged the audit bullet too. Looks like our neighbors in Stebbins will be faced with the state auditors but they will not be traveling that dirty, dusty road. (Hope it wasn't because we repeatedly told them we had no water, no sewer, no electricity, and that several staff members were suffering flu like symptoms.)

April 11th -

It's Tuesday! Ok, here is the "Electric Update". I found out that the village of St. Michael has power due to three generators. The largest one runs the village whereas the two smaller ones are used only as reserves. The problem we have been experiencing the past couple of days is due to the fact that the big generator was down. I am not sure when it went down but that really isn't important. What really matters is the fact that one of the smaller ones died too. This is what led to our powerless situation. As I said before, we lost power Sunday about 2:00. We got it back Monday about 1:00p.m. The village moved the generator so that it was working for the west end of "town" for three hours, then switched it to the east side of "town". The remainder of yesterday we were on for 3 hours, then off for 3. It was better than the night before that is for sure. It was a bit hard to sleep though. One minute I was freezing, the next I was sweating, and so on. At least we were able to warm up some. Rumor has it that the main generator has now been fixed. Let's hope so! Will keep you posted on that one!

Another weekend comes and goes...

Another weekend comes and goes.... which brings us to Monday morning. This weekend did bring some more adventure to the village. I'll get to that in just a bit.
Friday evening Patty and I went to Jeannie's to watch a movie with Jeannie and Len. We watched Brokeback Mountain. Saturday morning Patty and I had a early morning visitor that woke us up by pounding on the door. Out on our porch was this strange looking lady with snow in her hands... We were pelted with snow as we cheerfully greeted her. (It was Jeannie) Later that day we had other visitors. Amy and Jodi, our Stebbins SpEd girls, came to visit. Amy has decided to return to the lower 48 next year. It amazes me how the majority of the SpEd teachers in our district have bonded. (Amy... I'll miss you... especially when we go to Nome...lol) Later that afternoon Jeannie and Len delivered the exercise bike I had ordered... then Joe came by... I put together the bike and then went to Joe's and watched movies with he and Ryan.

(Ryan and I)
Sunday... day of rest... that is pretty much what we did the majority of the day. The power went out about 2:00 or so... so we decided it was a great time to just lay around and relax. It came back on for about half an hour and then went out again. This time we decided it would be best if we took naps. So we did... Awake about 7:00 only to find that we still had no electricity. We went over to Jeannie's to check out her situation. They were electric! Patty showered there and I headed to the school to do the same. Back to Jeannie's as she was making us dinner (at 9:00pm). We went home and hoped it would be a different situation... but nope... still powerless. All I can say about the whole thing... thank God it has warmed up. Yesterday it was almost 50 degrees. With no heat, our house was about 55 or so this morning. Oh well... that is life in the bush!

This was our beautiful Sunday night sky. It was all pinks and oranges... awesome sight!

Patty on honeybucket duty! (Sorry Roger)

Sunset Pictures

These pictures were all taken from Whale Island. Saturday night Jeannie, Len and I headed out on the Hondas. We rode the ice over to Whale Island. It was pretty neat getting a different view of St. Michael. The sun was just going down and it really made a beautiful scene.

This is Jeannie and her husband, Len. Len is here visiting from South Dakota & we are, of course, thrilled to have him back!

I really don't know when I have seen more awesome sunsets than while here. The night skies are really something to behold.

We did it...

Dara, the traitor, takes her free throws. These pictures are from our second game, which we played on Friday evening. Thursday's game was rough! We won that game but only had 5 players. Talk about wiped out! I had a blast but holy cow... I am out of shape! Friday's game we lost by 4 points.

Satuday we played our final game. We lost that one by 8 or 10 points. We went into the half tied but we just didn't have what energy we really needed. The games were a blast and it was great exercise. I can only say that because I am still alive, thought I was dying a few times.

After the game... we were very tired. Patty is on the bottom bleacher. I'm on the next one... That is Jeannie in the red, showing Ryan her pictures. Christine looks on as well.
Congrats to Petunia on her "MVP" and Bobbi on her All Star!!! Go Wolves!!!
Well that is it for the games...
