Back home in Michigan! Missing Alaska but loving being home

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

It's Tuesday! After a nice long weekend, we are back to school and things are going well. I did make it over to Unalakleet Friday and came home Sunday evening. I was a bit nervous when we left UNK being that I had not gotten a hold of Dan, our principal. I had left him a message and prayed that someone would be at the airstrip to pick me up. (It's about a 3 mile walk to town.) As our plane was touching down, I noticed the suburban sitting in the parking lot. A great sense of relief washed over me. When I got of the plane, not only was I welcomed by Dan and Bonnie, but Mark T. was also there. He knew I was coming in on that plane and wasn't sure that Dan would be there. Mark also told me that he had met Chuck, who had also been on his way to make sure someone was there to get me. Man... do I feel taken care of!!! These are the greatest guys!!! I guess it only takes getting left at the airstrip once to really appreciate a ride. Thanks guys!
Our adventure in Unalakleet was rather limited because of the rain. We had thought about going fishing on Saturday, however, it would have been rather wet. We did spend some great quality time resting and relaxing instead! I'll tell you one thing... Tunie and Mark are awesome cooks. Friday night they grilled up some fab pork ribs... that was good but did not compare to Saturday's dinner of grilled salmon and smoked chicken. I told Patty I was coming back here to SMK to starve. (I have lots of food but nothing quite those two invent.) Special thanks to The Vinks for a good weekend of comfort and company!
The landing strip in UNK is growing with lots of SMK gravel. I did not take any pictures though... sorry.
